| | | Markets having traded in a narrow range of about 100 points amid choppy trades ended with marginal losses. Sensex ended at 18221, higher by 16 points. Sensex saw a high of 18,316.32 versus a low of 18,206.50 intraday. Nifty crossed the psychological 5,500 mark to register an intra-day high of 5510 at the onset of the trading session, but pared off gains to shut shop at 5479, up six points. NSE index moved between a high of 5510.40 and low of 5473.65 during the day. For the week, equity benchmarks rose more than one percent.
The market breadth was mildly positive. Out of 3050 stocks traded on the BSE, there were 1449 advancing stocks as against 1389 declines. The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.97% and 0.94% respectively. Metals lost heavily with the BSE Metals Index down 1.10 per cent. The otherlosers were oil & gas,capital goods stocks. Realty extnded gains up 1.19 per cent. Auto came second clocking nearly 1 per cent in gains. Major gainers were Hero Honda (2.14%),Reliance Infrastructure(1.60%), Bharti Airtel (1.60%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.17%),Hindustan Unilever (1.12%), Infosys Technologies(0.76%). On the other hand, Jindal Steel & Power (2.10%),Jaiprakash Associates (1.53%),Hindalco Industries (1.47%),Sterlite Industries 1.28%),Reliance Industries (1.23%) and TCS(0.74%) were the major losers in the Sensex. Reliance Industries witnessed profit booking -down 1.25%. Among the other oil & gas stocks, BPCL was down 1.55% while ONGC was up 1.3% and GAIL was up 0.4%. Metal segment was also under pressure; Jindal Steel, Sterlite Industries and Hindalco were down 1.5-2%; Tata Steel was down 0.6% and SAIL was down 0.2%. TCS,HCL Tech and Wipro from technology pack went down 0.5-0.8% while Infosys rose 0.9%. In the financial space, PNB, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC and IDFC were down 0.3-0.9% whlie Kotak Mahindra Bank rallied 1.5%. SBI and HDFC Bank went up 0.3-0.5%. Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors from auto pack fell 0.3% while Hero Honda was the top gainer; went up 2.4% as Munjals set up SPV to acquire Honda stake and will control SPV with 51% stake. Other major gainers were Bajaj Auto(3.13%),Bharat Forge (1.74%),Exide Industries(1.44%),Ashok Leyland(1.28%) and Amtek Auto (0.84%)
